What to Look For

  • Compatibility first: Always match accessories to your oven model. Proprietary steam containers and perforated trays are designed around specific cavity dimensions and airflow patterns. Check the brand's accessory catalogue against your model number.

  • Roasting and baking trays: Heavy-gauge enamelled or stainless steel trays distribute heat more evenly than thin pressed-steel alternatives. Look for rolled edges that prevent warping at high temperatures.

  • Wire racks and telescopic rails: Telescopic rail systems allow you to pull out the rack fully without the risk of tipping - a genuine safety improvement for handling heavy roasting trays.

  • Steam and perforated trays: For ovens with steam injection or combi steam capability, the correct perforated tray allows steam to circulate around food properly.

  • Pyrolytic-safe cookware: Not all cookware withstands pyrolytic cleaning temperatures. If your oven has pyrolytic cleaning, only keep pyrolytic-rated accessories inside during the cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do I need brand-specific accessories?

For everyday baking trays and wire racks, quality generic accessories work fine. For steam inserts, perforated trays and anything involving cooking programmes that reference specific accessories, brand-specific products give better results. The oven's cooking programmes are usually calibrated for the manufacturer's accessories.

Q. Are oven accessories dishwasher-safe?

Many are, but check the specification. Enamelled trays generally are. Non-stick coated accessories and some telescopic rail components may not be. Pyrolytic cleaning should never be run with non-stick coated accessories inside the oven.

Q. Where can I find accessories for older oven models?

Genuine accessories for current models are available through our store. For older or discontinued models, contacting the brand directly is the most reliable route - most major brands maintain accessory stocks for models 10+ years old.

Q. What size baking tray fits in my oven?

Most 60cm built-in ovens accept a standard Euro tray measuring approximately 455-470mm wide by 370-385mm deep, but there's no universal standard across brands or models. The safest approach is to check your oven's manual for the recommended tray dimensions, or buy genuine brand accessories matched to your model number.

Q. How do I clean oven racks?

Remove the racks and soak them in hot water with dish soap for 20-30 minutes, then scrub with a non-scratch scouring pad - for heavier buildup, a paste of bicarbonate of soda and water left for a few hours before scrubbing works well. Most chrome-plated wire racks are not dishwasher-safe, as the detergent strips the chrome over time and causes rust, so check your manual before putting them through a cycle. If your oven has pyrolytic self-cleaning, always remove the racks before running the cycle - the extreme heat will permanently discolour and damage chrome plating.

Q. What is the best material for baking trays?

Heavy-gauge aluminised steel gives the most even heat distribution for biscuits, slices and flat bakes, holding its shape without hot spots under repeated high-temperature use. Enamelled steel is durable and easy to clean, handles roasting well and resists rust. Non-stick coated trays suit delicate items but degrade over time and shouldn't be used above around 230C or placed under a grill. For most households, a heavy aluminised steel tray for baking plus an enamelled roasting dish for meat covers the majority of what the oven gets used for.

Q. Do I need a pizza stone for my oven?

Not strictly, but it makes a real difference if you bake pizza regularly - the stone absorbs and holds heat, drawing moisture from the dough base and producing a crisper result than a metal tray. To get the best from it, preheat the stone in the oven for at least 30-45 minutes before loading the pizza. Some brands including Neff and Bosch sell baking stones matched to specific oven models that fit precisely on the runners. If pizza is occasional rather than regular, a preheated heavy steel tray gets you most of the way there at no extra cost.

Q. What are the must-have oven accessories?

A heavy roasting tray with a rack is the most useful starting point - the rack lifts meat off the tray floor so heat circulates underneath and fat drains away, giving better results than roasting directly in a dish. A set of wire oven shelves at varying heights and a reliable oven thermometer round out the basics, since built-in temperature displays can drift over time and an independent thermometer tells you what's actually happening inside the cavity. Beyond that, a baking stone is worth having if you make bread or pizza, and telescopic pull-out rails (available as an accessory for many built-in ovens) make handling heavy trays at eye level significantly safer.
